WedPix.com Article About "Sideline Shots"

By Andrew Niesen

WedPix.com just published their June issue and they interviewed me again, this time for an article about "Sideline Shots." They define sideline shots as "photos that are distinct from the standard reaction pictures that you may capture during the walk down the aisle, the vows or the cake cutting. This particular variety tends to be further away from the primary wedding day action, both geographically and thematically, but adds depth and essential perspective to the complete wedding day story."

It's an interesting story and they quoted me quite a bit, so brace yourself :) It's always a little weird seeing stories written that quote you. Especially after spending so many years working in the news industry where we were the ones photographing and quoting people, it's a very interesting experience being on the flip side of that. What's great, though, is that Michael Roney, the writer of the WedPix article has been very accurate with quoting me from the phone interview we had.

Elevate!

Garrett Nudd
Joy NuddWe're having a wonderful time with the crew at Elevate2, Garrett and Joy Nudd's workshop in Orlando. There are so many talented photographers here, and we've been inspired by their passion and creativity. As Gene Higa told us earlier this week, it's a great time to be a wedding photographer! Thanks to everyone for a fun few days of sharing. It's refreshing to meet so many new friends, and reconnect with many old ones too! ShootQ is sponsoring the workshop, and we had a chance to give a demo to everyone today. We can't wait to incorporate new ideas into ShootQ. Thanks to everyone for giving feedback. It's the best way to grow and improve the software.

FlashFlavor.com

By Andrew Niesen

Our good friend, Matt Adcock, recently started a blog called Flash Flavor which is focused on sharing creative flash techniques for wedding photographers. Matt asked us if we would like to share any stories about any images we've made using flash in a unique or creative way. I immediately thought of the above image that I made at a wedding in February and sent the image to Matt, along with the story of how I made the image.

The Ballad of a Boring Man

I’m boring. This isn’t one of those posts where I complain about how boring it is to get older. In fact, I’ve always been boring. When I was a kid, my neighbors would come and ask if I wanted to play. I would decline and resume the monotony I was deeply entranced in inside. [...]

Thanks For Visiting, Summer. Could You Leave Me Alone Now?

Kansas City: We'll Clear Out Your Pours Whether You Like It Or Not I hate summer. I hate summer more than you can imagine. If I were a superhero, my arch nemesis would be Dr. Summer. I would spend all of my time trying to stop Dr. Summer from destroying Megaopolis, my superhero location, with [...]
